About Mahjong Moodboard

Mahjong Moodboard is mahjong solitaire made for comfort. The tiles are big and easy to tell apart. Each one has a large number in its corner and a clear picture in the middle. The tiles you cannot pick yet are a little darker, so you can see your next move at a glance.

There is no clock to beat and no way to lose. Every deal can be solved. If you get stuck, Undo and Hint are always free, and a shuffle is always there.

Each board has its own mood: a seaside morning, an English garden, a cosy kitchen, a misty lake and more. Clear a board and its mood is pinned to your moodboard. Work through all 24 boards, from a small bridge to the classic Turtle.

Come back each day for the Daily. Everyone plays the same board, and you can see how your time compares. Or open Relax for a fresh board in any layout you have reached, with no clock at all.

How to play

  1. Tap or click a tile, then tap its twin. The two tiles are taken away.
  2. You can only pick a free tile. A tile is free when no tile lies on top of it, and its left side or its right side is open. One open side is enough. Blocked tiles look darker.
  3. Any flower matches any flower, and any season matches any season.
  4. Take away every tile to clear the board.
  5. Stuck? Press Hint to see a pair, Undo to take a move back, or Shuffle to deal the tiles again.

Controls

InputWhat it does
TouchTap a free tile, then tap its twin to take both away
MouseClick a free tile, then click its twin
KeyboardArrow keys move a yellow ring over the free tiles; Enter or Space picks a tile
KeyboardH shows a hint, U or Z undoes a move, S shuffles
KeyboardP or Esc pauses, M turns the sound on or off, F goes fullscreen

Tips

  • Work from the top down. Tiles under a tall stack stay blocked until you clear the stack.
  • Open up the long rows from both ends. Each end tile you take frees the one next to it.
  • When three of a kind are free, stop and look. Take the two that free the most tiles.
  • A wrong turn costs nothing. Undo as often as you like.

FAQ

Can every board be solved?

Yes. Each deal is built backwards from an empty table, so there is always a way to clear it. A shuffle deals the tiles that are left in a way that can be cleared too.

How do shuffles and ads work?

Each board has one free shuffle. After that you can watch a short ad to shuffle again. If no ad is ready, the shuffle is still free after a short pause. You will never be stuck. A short ad may also play between boards, from your third board on and at most every other board. Never during play, and never in the Daily.

Are undo and hints free?

Yes, always, as many as you like. A hint shows a pair to take, and picks one that keeps the board clearable whenever it can.

How big are the tiles?

Tiles are at least 40 pixels wide on a phone, and bigger on a tablet or computer. Turn on Large tiles in Settings to make them bigger still. On a small screen, the mood boards swap the 144-tile Turtle for the Little Turtle, so you can read every tile.

How does the Daily work?

Everyone gets the same board each day, on a phone or a computer. Your first try is ranked by time. Each shuffle after the free one adds 30 seconds. You can share your result. It shows your time and shuffles, never your name.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No account is needed. Your progress stays in this browser. Once the game has loaded, you can keep playing in that tab without a connection. The daily ranking needs one.

Design notes

Many mahjong games are hard to read or full of ads. We drew big, high-contrast tile faces with a large number in the corner, and darkened the tiles you cannot pick yet. Every deal can be solved. Undo and hints are always free, and ads stay out of the way.
